Biblical tools on how to become a great sunday school teacher
As Sunday school teachers, we are a tool in God's hands to guide little ones as they begin their walk with Jesus. Here are some key tips to think about and pray for across your whole church ministry.
- Prepare your heart and your lesson in advance.
Don’t leave anything to chance. Take time to study, pray, and organize before the big day. A well-prepared class reflects commitment and passion for serving. 1 Corinthians 16:14
- Humility as a key value:
Acknowledge God in everything you do and remember that your service is for Him and to expand His kingdom. Humbly accept your weaknesses and challenges as a teacher, understanding that you are not self-sufficient, but in Him, you have everything. Micah 6:8
- A strong sense of responsibility.
Attend your classes faithfully, avoid canceling, and if you need to miss a class, give notice ahead of time. Arrive early, pray before starting, make final adjustments, connect with your team, and welcome the kids with a big smile. Ecclesiastes 9:10a
- Keep learning and improving.
Look for opportunities to grow, whether through workshops, books, or feedback from your team. Every new skill or knowledge you gain not only improves your teaching but also enriches the children’s experience in class. Proverbs 18:15
- Teach with relevance and creativity.
Bring the Bible to the daily lives of children in a special way. Use practical examples, tell stories, and plan fun activities that capture the children’s attention, making the most of every minute. Matthew 13:34
- Genuinely care about teaching:
Make sure each child leaves class with a truth in their heart and a desire to please the Lord. Your goal is to shape hearts for God. Proverbs 22:6
- Be an example of what you teach:
When you live according to the principles you teach, you inspire both children and fellow teachers. Your passion for God can motivate others to serve and walk with Him. Titus 2:7
